Dr. Sameer Gupta

"We believe that every older adult has the right to lead a fun and carefree life".

Dr Sameer Gupta, FACC FSCAI is a highly skilled and reputed Interventional Cardiologist. He is one of the handful of Interventional cardiologists in India who is board certified in 5 American specialties - Interventional Cardiology, Cardiology, Endovascular Intervention, Echocardiography and Internal Medicine.

During his years in the United States, Dr Gupta was exposed to the concept of Senior & Assisted Living for the first time. Some of his patients would be staying at such facilities permanently while others would be there temporarily after getting discharged from the hospital. The concept was alien to him and he often wondered why someone would not live at their own house?

This changed completely when he visited one of these facilities to see a patient. The senior residences were all encompassing with all the residents being happy, engaged, occupied and well taken care of. His patient told him - "I don’t have to worry about paying my bills, doing groceries or getting bothered with other chores. They take care of everything. I am off to my book club after we are done". The cheer in his patient’s voice stuck with him and after staying in the United States for almost 10 years he returned to India.

What he saw in India was completely different. Most older adults were either staying by themselves or even if they were staying with the families were starving for companionship, struggling with health issues, home nursing, medications, mobility issues etc. He thought about his 69-year-old patient with multiple illnesses in the US who was leading a carefree and fun life compared to similar adults in India. Why can't older adults in India lead a similar life?

Dr Gupta believes "every older adult has the right to a fun and carefree life".
